Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)

The beautiful structure of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), one
of the most widely used proteins in biochemical research. The picture
illustrates the principle of GFP in that the green fluorescent
emission is induced by blue light excitation. The chromophore is
represented by spacefill atoms while the beta barrel is represented by
thin ribbons. The texture of the ribbons is a straight copy and paste
from the Moray texture library. For the simulation of the light, the
POVRay media statement was used again. This effect is hard to get
working properly and takes a lot of number crunching, but the ambience
it generates is very nice indeed! This pic makes a very nice desktop
